That said, off we go to Q & A's:

The new update won't stop loading, PLZ HELP!

Yes, there was a small issue with the current update which has affected (or might still be affecting) selected users. A permanent fix/patch is being worked on. If you still experience the issue with your game NOT loading properly, more info/help can be found here:

http://forums.street...ead.php?t=26019

No new characters added? No new colors? Why Tee-My-App, WHY!

Lesson #1: reading is GOOD

Anyone who read the in-game loading info/news will confirm that not even once has it been mentioned that a "new character" or "new colors" would be added to the 9th Anniversary Update. And unless you hear of SFO news from an "official source", everything else on the internets is a rumor and/or is a flat-out lie

Of course that does NOT mean that new chars or new colors will NOT be added to SFO in the future ... just ... don't expect them in this update

But as a "downer/reality" note, don’t forget that the current version of the game has 12.5 playable characters, and if you are bored of them already (and/or do NOT even use half of them) adding another Shoto or a semi-laggy X-Men char will NOT satisfy your cravings either :(

... instead, a much more logical strategy is to try and fix/patch/improve the existing 12 characters until they are "up to par" with the mighty Ryu ... and that is what the "bug-squash updates" are all about

What is the purpose of the 9th Anniversary update?

The 9th Anniversary Collection Edition of SFO is NOT an event, nor is it a "brand new game" (we already had one of those released earlier this year ) ... instead, it is meant to be seen both a reflection and a step towards "long term improvement" of SFO.

One of the key aims (and added improvement) is the "performance boost" that was added to the game in 1.9d. Based on the "state of the art" lab tests involving 5 year old computer hardware, the newest version of SFO could/should run up to TWICE as fast as before. This means that if your old Pentium 1.5 GHZ computer could only run the old versions of the game at 15 FPS (Frames Per Second) in the latest update you can expect as much as 30 FPS ... likewise, if in the past your system could only hope to approach the 40 FPS limit in single player mode, in the newest update you may find that your Walmart laptop is indeed able to peak out at 40 FPS even in 1 on 1 non-tag multiplayer games

The second aim of the 9th Anniversary Update was to added the much needed "security" into the game. Simply what this translates to is: this year, brand new anti-cheat algorithms have been written from the ground up for SFX, and thanks to the power of "sleepless nights of one man" ... those improvements have now been transferred over to SFO

What anti-LAG and/or Network Based improvements were added?

Imagine if your game is running at a solid frame-rate of 40 FPS, while the person you are playing with is in Brazil, on an old computer, running at 15-20 FPS tops on a dial-up-like connection. The end result of such experiment is "UBER LAG"

But what if SFO was able to improve the speed/performance of the slow outdated computers while attempting to detect packet-loss and/or compensate for sever LAG-spikes and >3000 ping? Well, the end result would be a "slightly better" game, but no means a "perfect game", and that is EXACTLY what 1.9d is all about: we know we can't make circa 2k1 Shockwave 8.5 engine perform miracles, but maybe we can slap it around until it does slightly better than before

This completely suxx0rs, my game is now running WORSE than before!

Unfortunately it is next to impossible to predict of how a browser-based game will perform on the tens of thousands of variations of outdated computer hardware around the world, all we can do is "try" to make things better, and when it does NOT work, we can fix, patch and update the problems as need be.

One of the major differences of the 2k9 updates (which of course WAS carried over into 1.9d) is the ability to seamlessly update SFO with silent "patches".

Don't like the new delay on the hyper-effect screen? Getting odd error messages from the game? Finding that dial-up users are timing out more often? These and other problems have already been "patched" as of last night's "midnight" release, and while a lot more work still needs to be done, it is a fair bet that even MORE updates and fixes will be applied in the near future ... and to experience them, all you have to do is run the game (since most silent tweaks can be picked up by SFO automatically, without a need for lengthy manual downloads )

Some changes were ok, but I still think that specific characters need to be altered slightly more. What should I do?

You should cry and complain on the forum, explaining the reasons for your proposed idea to our batch of dedicated Ambassadors, who will be more than happy to properly do*****ent your ideas/problems, and pass them on to one of our brand-new (and dedicated) Administrators, who will in turn give the gist of your idea to the team of "drinking birds", who's tireless pecking at the worn-out keyboards will shape the next exciting version(s) of SFO

But isn't pointless complaining considered to be AGAINST the SFO community's rules? Won't me posting "THIS GAME SUX" over and over again get me uber-banned?

Err ... we'll get back to you on that one

I just played SFO and I thought the game felt slightly faster with a bit LESS lag. Am I just seeing things and/or should I stop licking this giant poisonous toad?

First off, don't forget that "WINNERS DON'T LICK TOADS". Second, if you experience slightly less lag and/or game speed improvements as of the 9th Anniversary Update, there is NO NEED to panic. One alternative which can be used to abolish your new found hope is to listen to the words of the haters, who will be more than happy to reassure you that NOTHING is as good as it used to be, and that ALL THINGS SUCK worse than they ever did before.

... You can love it. You can hate it. You can help to improve and shape it. You can bash your keyboard in rage, or own the n00bs with Juggernaut in a cage. And if the Black Akuma don't float your boat, all you can do is lick a toad. What up is down, and what left is right, and you just read the gibberish I type ...

But at the end of it all, the ancient slogan of SFO still remains: "Dreams Don't Die". We have 9 years history to prove that

To those experiencing this problem:

It was an error with the game, caused by either logging in SFO via Player or running some TMC stories. Unfortunately, some players' games did not update properly from the server, leading to this current situation. The patch has already been loaded into SFO, so those who haven't been affected by this should be OK from this point on.

As for those who are still experiencing the Now Updating page, give us your EXACT In Game Name and we'll manually correct the game.

Awesome News! In addition to our current roster of SFO/SFX Ambassadors, we have chosen a new group of members to expand the reign of righteous reporting of in-game cheaters and rule breakers - among other Ambassador duties and responsibilities:

B_O_N_E_Z, a member of the first 14, will be reinstated due to increased activity.

We received over 60 emails in response to last months application request. Rest assured, I received and read all your applications, as did every active moderator. If you emailed us in June and your name is not in the above list, it is for one of two reasons.

1) Your were not a suitable candidate for Ambassador.
2) You were a suitable candidate for Ambassador, but we cannot add you at this time due to volume. (IE: Accepting more than 10 Ambassadors at time would be one too many.)

I ask that everyone who sent an application in June not to question any moderator as to which category you fall into, whether they will be added at a later date, or in any way pressure a moderator to accept them.

I also ask you not to disparage the candidates who were accepted. Should you fall under reason/category 2, doing any of the above may negatively impact your chances of becoming a future Ambassador.

More Awesome News!

The [ July 4th Freedom Fighters ] TMC mini-event is upon us all! I have not had time to play this baby yet, but I can tell you from the player buzz, and hard work put into it by blockattack and Kim-Kam that it is awesome!

What are you waiting for? There is a one-of-a-kind color to be won!! Read up and start playing!

For those interested, it is now possible to host Dedicated Servers in SFX.

To start one, simply direct your web browser to:

http://Dedicated.XvsSF.com

Once you have confirmed that the game is loading, simply minimize the browser window and "walk away". The Dedicated Server will start automatically. It will also configure and tailor itselto your Internet connection and computer specifications, as well as auto-update and/or restart as needed.

Since a Dedicated Server displays no 3D graphics, its performance will be depended directly on the CPU of the computer where it is hosted. As such, it is recommended that your run the server on a 2GHZ+ system with a wired (I.E.: non-wireless) Internet connection. (The graphical performance of your computer does NOT matter. Even if you can only run the game in the "Lowest" quality setting, this should be more than enough for a Dedicated host).

Since the purpose of a Dedicated Server is to provide a stable multiplayer environment for other players, the best performance can only be achieved on a high-speed Internet connection with an approximate upload rate of 2mbits (~200KBytes/sec) for a 10 player game, and roughly 1mbit upload (~100KBytes/sec) for a 6 player game. Running a server in a shared and/or wireless environment with frequent file downloads or video streaming is NOT advised (since any extra bandwidth usage inside your network will most likely create Lag-Spikes for the players who have joined your server).

If you are sure that your computer and Internet specifications meet the above requirements (or better yet, if you have already proven yourself to be able to host a stable 8-10 player game for hours on end), then running a Dedicated Server could be right for you.

Note that the first time you run the game in Dedicated mode your Max Player limit will be set to 4, but after a few hours of lag-free hosting your Dedicated Server will be automatically upgraded to host 6, 8 and 10 player games (assuming that your Internet connection is able to handle it).

Next Up: More Dedicated features (such as remote-control of the server by it’s designated owner). However, such features can only be implemented once the stability of the Dedicated hosting has been proven by multiple users.

Toggle this category Accepting New SFO/SFX Ambassadors! Apply Now!

Posted By:  Titanium @ 17 June 2010 - 05:19 PM
Before shocking us all with his last destructive actions in this community, former NWO system 4 started the Ambassador program a few months ago.

Well, the Ambassador Program is going on its third month, and TMyApp and the mod team have been very pleased with the Ambassadors' work. They have been helpful with watching the servers when moderators are not active; catching cheaters of various sorts, and reporting inappropriate behavior.

Thanks for all your hard work gal and guys.

If you'd like to join our current roster of SFO/SFX Ambassadors, and are an active, capable, dedicated member of the community willing to help out in-game or on the forum whenever you can, read on.

Brief summary of your job description:

Quote

The SFO Ambassadors are basically here to help shape up the future of SFO and to assist the community whenever help is needed when the staff isn't around.

Quote

Please be aware:

- They have the ability to report cheaters/hackers and receive response from the staff quicker than anyone else.

- Help out with future events made by the staff.

- Test new future TMC content, etc before anyone else.

If you can't happen to find a staff member in-game/forum , please send one of the Ambassadors a P.M. and they shall forward your message to us.. 70% of time, it will be faster than the Contact a Mod feature.

If you have a problem with one of the Ambassadors, please send one of the staff members a P.M. and will try to solve something.

Requirements to Apply:

- Great experience with SFO. Must have considerable knowledge about SFO/SFX, and be willing to learn what you don't know. The game mechanics, staff, players, etc etc.

- Must be an active in-game player. Quitting for a long period of time (over a year?) and coming back doesn't count.

- Must be willing to give a decent amount (how much is up to you) of your free time to others.

- Must show respect to all members, have self-discipline and show self-control, and must be able to follow rules.

- Must have a PX Forum Account. Since TMyApp drops by once in a while to speak directly to Ambassadors/address a topic, the Official Ambassador forum only exists on PX.

Include the following questions, with your honest answers, in an email addressed to TitaniumFist@streetfighteronline.com with the subject "SFO Ambassador Program Application":

1.) What is your SFO In-game Name?

2.) What is your SFX In-game Name?

3.) What is your PX Forum Name?

4.) How long have you been playing SFO? And what about SFX?

5.) Why do you feel you should become an Ambassador?

Your answers will be looked over by all active mods who wish to view them. The IGNs and Forum Name you specify will not be changed. Choose wisely.

Any applications sent to the wrong email, or PMed to me or any moderator on any forum will be ignored. Use the email specified.
